Draft
The tapping is to hold the pages firm through one or more metal staples inserted from outside and folded in the exact center of the book.
This procedure is an economic bindings, ie those that are not appropriate for a book that wants to adhere to certain standards. In addition to being unpleasant to the sight, it is difficult to practice on a large amount of sheets. It is advisable for the pamphlets, for magazines and brochures.
Spiral
The ring binding, or spiral, it is the systematic perforation of the inner edge of the pages, and then affix a metal spiral or plastic, able to penetrate inside the holes created and form a binding.
The advantage of this method consists in the ease of keeping open a specific page, since the opening is maximum, and each sheet can rotate around the spiral.
The disadvantage lies in its being unsightly and be easy to break: just pull the sheet with a pressure higher than usual and just tear the high and low sides of the sheets.
Although this procedure is numbered among the little systems suited to the publication of a book, but that does not mean that the customer can not claim.
Paperback
Currently it is the binding method which is the most popular, as it is a good compromise between an acceptable quality and an economical price.
The procedure is quite simple: the set of sheets is joined, smoothed and glued to the cover by a thick layer of glue.
The result is good, there is binding, but such a procedure has two flaws: the first is the length: it will never reach that of the fishing line, but soon deteriorates, especially when a page you open it too much and you go to create a cut in the glue. The second problem consists in the limitation of the opening of the pages, which is not extended because the thread stitched, but is reduced both because a part of the sheet is pasted, either as another part of the sheet, adjacent to the glue, it tends to remain in the shade.
Increased quality of paperback is milling. It consists nell'accorpare pages and in practice a series of traces of about half a centimeter, wide enough to allow the glue to penetrate and create armor that makes it more stable binding and makes it last longer over time.
Fishing line
It is certainly the most elegant and durable binding method, gives the book the prestige and completeness that makes it "book".
A binding of the kind involves the use of "sixteenths", a group of sixteen sheets gathered together and held fast by a seam. The set of sixteenth notes, finally, is sewn and taking further balance the glue.
The advantages, as well as aesthetic, are the ease of opening of the pages, which may open in all their entirety, and the resistance of the sheets.
Being a process of glue and sewing, the thread stitched requires higher costs, which are around euro per single copy.
